Abandoned for more than a century, the Espinas chestnut grove is like many other chestnut groves in the region. Now undergoing renovation, the Espinas orchard aims to raise public awareness of chestnut growing and encourage the restoration of the Cévennes chestnut groves.
The association Epi de Mains, in partnership with the commune of Ventalon en Cévennes and the associations of chestnut growers, wish to renovate the Espinas chestnut grove, while making this work an example of renovation. The aim is to encourage local residents to do the same by allowing them to discover the skills involved in chestnut growing. Between the history of the Cévennes, its heritage and biodiversity, the visitor is also encouraged to question current environmental and social issues, giving him or her the keys to become an actor of change.
