Honouring our shadows
Constellations workshop — on the threshold of Samhain
In the Celtic tradition, Samhain marks the turning point of the year. The light recedes, the harvests have been brought in, and night gains ground. It was said that the veil between the worlds grew thinner: the ancestors drew nearer, and what we had left in the shadows came back to haunt us.
Our shadows are not what is ‘bad’ within us. They are the parts of ourselves we have set aside in order to remain loved, to belong, to survive: anger we have swallowed, grief that has found no outlet, a silent loyalty to someone in our family line, a family secret that no one speaks of.
These parts have not disappeared. They wait in the wings, and make themselves known to us through our patterns, our tensions, our weariness.
What we will do together:
The constellation offers a space to lay these shadows down, to look at them, to restore their place within the family system and the family line. Not to eliminate them, but to stop carrying them without realising it. What is acknowledged no longer weighs on us in the same way.
As Samhain approaches, the season lends itself to this: just as the earth rests beneath the humus, what has been laid to rest can be welcomed.
