Synopsis:
São Paulo, the 1980s… Noboru has to prepare a school presentation on his Japanese heritage, which he has always tried to hide. He is therefore forced to turn to his grumpy grandfather, Hideo, to gain a deeper understanding of his family and the story of Hideo’s arrival in Brazil in 1920, when he was still a young man. Having always wanted to avoid talking about his past and his uprooting, but urged on by his wife – Noboru’s lovely grandmother – Hideo reluctantly agrees to tell Noboru his story and how he settled in South America. As he delves deeper into the tale of his ancestors’ exile, the young schoolboy takes a keen interest in embracing this culture from the other side of the world and even discovers the existence of an unknown uncle…
