Information
This route offers exceptional scenery in a mineral and granite landscape typical of Mont Lozère, becoming more reminiscent of the Cévennes and southern regions in the lower sections. It passes by the unmissable Chastelas site, where a castle once stood, and through the village of Gourdouze, near the Rochers du Trenze. Expert level. Excellent skill and physical condition required. Includes a steep section to climb to Les Hortals.
Practical Advice
Beware of livestock guardian dogs (Patous) working between Gourdouze and L'Aubaret. If you are approached by a Patou, stop running or dismount and walk calmly away from the flock. Above all, do not threaten the dogs with a stick or stones; this will only increase their sense of threat. Off-trail mountain biking is prohibited. Wearing a helmet is strongly recommended. Don't forget your repair kit and basic tools. Close all gates and fences securely. Slow down in farms and hamlets.
